As a young man, he displayed exceptional intellect and commitment to his studies, distinguishing himself as an exemplary student throughout high school. At the age of 19, he embarked on a new adventure, enlisting in the United States Navy as an Electrician's Mate. Steve was a patriot through and through; his commitment to serving his country was unyielding, and his contributions during his 21 years of service were nothing short of remarkable. His success in life was earned through sheer determination, hard work, and reliable dedication to his family and friends. It was during his time in the Navy that Steve's path intertwined with that of his high school sweetheart, Jamie Peterson. On December 30, 1981, the two exchanged vows, and embarked on a lifelong journey of love and devotion. Steve was the epitome of a loving and dutiful husband, placing Jamie's happiness and well-being above all else. His gentle and soft-spoken nature was a constant source of comfort and support, a beacon of stability through the ups and downs of life. As a father, Steve was a loving provider, a protector, and a role model to his four children, Casey, Ginnele, Curtis, and Steven. He was determined to instill strong morals and etiquette in his children's lives as this was evident in every aspect of his parenting. His list of children would not be complete without Chris, who he counted as one of his own sons and honorary family. Steve's children never wanted for the necessities of life, as he worked tirelessly to ensure their well-being and happiness. His love and support was joyfully extended to his many grandchildren who affectionately know him as “Poppie”. A steadfast friend, Steve was always there when you needed him, offering guidance and wisdom with humility and grace. He commanded attention with his measured words, and his advice was valued by all who sought it. His impeccable character and high standards served as a constant reminder to those around him of the importance of living an honorable life. In the wake of his departure, we mourn the loss of a remarkable man. Steve Sumner Peterson leaves behind a void that can never be filled.
