Nicholas William Vaughn

Nicholas W. Vaughn Nicholas “Nick” William Vaughn, 40, passed away on July 27th, 2024, following a six-year battle with brain cancer. Nick was born in McCook, Nebraska, on September 23, 1983. As a teen, he moved with his mother to Missouri and graduated from Truman High School in Independence, Missouri, in 2002. He went on to major in Journalism at Park University. Nick had a flourishing career in news and video production and was proud to have won three regional Emmy Awards. In 2011, Nick met his future wife, Jessica (Ehlinger). The couple married in 2015 in a beautiful ceremony at the Longview Mansion in Lees Summit. Together, they have two beloved boys, Declan (7) and Colin (3). Nick fiercely loved his family; he considered being a father and husband his greatest joy and accomplishment. Besides spending time with loved ones, Nick enjoyed bike riding, travel, making silly YouTube videos, and playing the drums. He was a passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan. During his long battle with cancer, Nick carried himself with dignity, strength, and determination. He is remembered as loyal, kind, compassionate, and fun-loving by all those lucky enough to have known him. He shared his whole heart with his family and friends and will be missed dearly. Nick is survived by his mother, Rebecca (Robert Johnson) Johnson, his sister Erin (Corry Scott) Vaughn, his wife Jessica Vaughn, and his sons Colin Vaughn and Declan Vaughn. Nick is preceded in death by his father, Ellis Vaughn, and his grandparents, Martha and James Oakes and Jesse “Bill” and Treese Vaughn. Services will be held on August 17th at 3:00 pm at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral located at 415 W 13th St, Kansas City, MO 64105 with a celebration of life reception to follow in the Founders Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nick’s fundraising campaign through The National Brain Tumor Society (https://nbtsevents.braintumor.org/fundraiser/5669900?is_new=true) or to Sister Servants of Mary Ministers to the Sick (sisterservantsofmary.org) who helped care for Nick during the hardest times and to whom our family will be forever grateful.
