Karen Mae Shilling

Karen Mae (Dike) Shilling, 77, of Odessa, passed away at home, on December 30, 2022, surrounded by family. Per Karen's request there will be cremation and a private memorial at a later date. Karen was born August 21,1945 in Independence, MO to Mabel Pauline (Curtis) and Henry Leroy Dike. Karen was married to Larry Albert Shilling on October 27, 1962. He preceded her in death in August 2010. Shortly after his death she had health issues that required more care and she moved to her daughter and son-in-law's home. Karen was a homemaker most of her married life, occasionally having a job outside the home. One job was running the Odessa Gun Shop in the 1980's. At home she cared for many farm animals and kept the books for businesses that they had through the years. Karen was an amazing seamstress, making many clothes for the family, including prom and wedding dresses. She was able to see a picture in a book and make an outfit like it with no pattern. In addition, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, baking, candy making, canning and most of all caring for her family. Karen is survived by three children; Larry (Clare) Shilling of Mesa, CO, Tammy (Ray) Sullivan, Odessa, and Shawn (Vanessa) Shilling, Odessa; seven grandchildren Christopher (Tabetha) Sullivan, Odessa, Logan Sullivan, Blue Springs, Chelsey (Clint) Ream, Odessa, Lindsay (Bill) Romero, De Beque, CO, Jacob (Sierra) Shilling, Rifle, CO, Jacob Duke and Ashlyn Shilling, Odessa; nine great-grandchildren, Boyd, Addaleigh, and Silas Sullivan, Aubrey and Luna Sullivan, Liam and Gabrianna Romero, Lyla Ream, and Lillian Shilling. In addition, she is survived by four sisters and one brother; Betty Fosberg, Odessa, Marilyn Dodd, Fairway, KS, Pamela Bower-Childers, Ellettsville, IN, Connie Carlson, Independence, and Robert Eidson, Kansas City, MO, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings; Ruth McCormick, Patricia Bell, Noah "Tony" Dike, Larry Dike, Rex Dike, and Cloy Cahill. The family would like to thank Three Rivers Hospice for their great care and kindness shown to Karen and her family during this difficult time.
