Joseph Barry Romdall October 13, 1957 – September 6, 2024 With great sadness we share the sudden passing of Joseph “Barry” Romdall on September 6, 2024. He was 66 years old. We will greatly miss the twinkle in his eye and his smile that was contagious. Barry had the gift of gab, an uncanny ability to tell jokes, or share a story that had you chuckling for days. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help people in any way he could. Barry was born in Independence, Missouri on October 13, 1957, to Joseph Leroy and Lorene Romdall. He lived his entire life in Independence, with frequent stays at the historic family farm in Adrian, Missouri. His love of history and genealogy started at the farm and continued throughout his life. Barry graduated from Truman High School. He met future wife, and lifetime love, Kelly Lynn White, through close mutual friends. Barry and Kelly were married and blessed with two children, Matthew Brandon and Kaitlyn Sue. To say Barry was extremely proud of his kids is an understatement. They shared a love of sports and Barry helped coach both kids’ sports teams. Matt inherited Barry’s kind heart and loyalty to his family. Katie is artistically talented, and lives and works in Montana at a bakery’s whose motto is “Life is Uncertain, Eat Dessert First!” That fits Barry perfectly! A devoted Chiefs fan, we all looked forward to Barry’s humorous commentaries and texts during Chiefs games. Barry was a jack of all trades and the “tool man” if you ever needed one. He could help complete any project! He enjoyed playing pool in leagues throughout the city, searching for the best tacos in town, listening to music, and spending time with family. Barry worked at Lipton Tea / Unilever until retirement, then part-time for O’Reilly Auto Parts. He was loved and respected by countless friends who became his extended family. He never met a stranger, and his friendships lasted forever. Barry is survived by his wife Kelly, son Matt, daughter Katie, sister Joy Hobick (Mike), brother-in-law Curtis White (Nicole), sister-in-law Tracy White Baldridge (Jim), cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and friends – too numerous to count. Of special note, Barry had close relationships with all his nieces and nephews, was always genuinely interested in what they were doing, and never forgot a birthday. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred Warren, mother-in-law Eldgetine White, brother-in-law Ricky White and sister-in-law Cathy White Boutross. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, 1:00 pm at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 9320 E. 35th Street, Independence, MO 64052. Barry’s legacy of love for his family and friends will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate to know him. In honor of Barry, hug your loved ones, do not forget to call them, and eat dessert first!
