Cathleen Cecelia Combs

A gentle soul, spiritual teacher, and beloved sister whose independent mind, inclusive faith, and quiet feminism reshaped how many understood love, God, and themselves. After nearly 80 years on her beloved Mother Earth, Cathy Combs gently and courageously crossed back into the light on December 6, 2025, to dance among the stars and reunite with those who preceded her. She was welcomed by her parents, Commodore (Mick to family & friends; Mike professionally) and Marianne Combs; her grandmother Isabel Hans Combs; her nephew Luke McFarland Combs; and many deeply loved souls. Cathy is survived by her eleven siblings—sisters Michaelene Lourenco, Vicky Combs, Laura Combs, and Lisa Richter, and brothers Gregory and Matt Combs—along with 28 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was a profoundly loved sister and aunt, known for her gentle presence, quiet wisdom, and expansive heart. She graduated from Lillis Catholic High School in 1964, earned a BA in Psychology and Human Development from the University of Kansas in 1968, and later completed a master’s degree in Psychology specializing in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from JFK University in California. A lifelong Jayhawk, Cathy proudly kept her KU blanket and jug close. Spirituality was the central thread of Cathy’s life. After discovering Unity School of Christianity in California, she devoted decades of service to Unity Village and Unity Church of Overland Park. She was also a founding member of Gaia Community, a Unitarian Universalist congregation in Kansas City, where she served on ritual teams and the governing board. Cathy believed deeply that humanity is innately good and universally loved. She was the author of Quantum Prayer: It’s Already Answered! Quantum Reality: It Already Exists! and spent her life sharing a message of radical love, inclusion, and joy. Cathy retired from Child Social Services for the State of Missouri. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Fillmore Chapel at Unity Village, Unity Village, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Village or Kansas City Hospice.
