Larry Phillip Waldon

March 7, 1962 - February 2, 2021

Larry Phillip Waldon, 58, passed away on February 2, 2021 with his loving sister, Tammy, and wife, Karen holding him close. Born in Kansas City, the town that would always be "home" is also where he spent his last days. Larry graduated from North Kansas City High School and Central Missouri University with a B.S. in Graphic Arts. His early career was in the printing industry with jobs at Chromagraphics and Hallmark Cards. It was at Hallmark where he met his wife, Karen Dickinson. After moving to Colorado in the late '90s, Larry held purchasing and contracts positions at Current, Sanmina-SCI, Honeywell, and KBR Wyle. Karen and Larry moved to Colorado to be closer to her family, but Kansas City would always hold his heart. He had a varied and large collection of friends and had a gift for bringing people together from all parts of his life. He loved a good party and staying up late while playing his favorite songs. He was a runner for most of his adult life. Running as a Hash House Harrier, Larry connected with others who shared a love of running, beer, and good people. Larry also had the gift of seeing and making things beautiful. His portrait photography was personal and intentional. The extra touches he added to his home, and even camping trips with linen tablecloths and candles demonstrated his artistic and romantic aesthetic. He also loved a good road trip and travel was always on his mind. His time as an exchange student in Kenya would shape his world view and desire to see more. Larry's life was full of women who loved him: his mother and sisters, his many women friends, and wife, and two daughters - Jennie and Eleanor. His close relationship with his sister Tammy grounded him for all his days. These women will always be Larry's Girls. He knew how to make each one feel special and beautiful. Larry's tight-knit male buddies might even say the same thing and will remember him as mild-mannered, easy and fun to be with, and always ready to help. Larry was a true gentleman and "gentle man". This beautiful man left us too soon. His heart was full of love and also a lot of pain. In his passing, his family hopes that we can learn to choose love and help in times of need. Larry's legacy: do not take life too seriously, learn one karaoke song really well (Harper Valley PTA was his), surround yourself with beautiful things, stay out of judgment, and his two beautiful daughters. Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Dickinson Waldon, his daughters Jennie R. Waldon and Eleanor C. Waldon, his sisters Tammy Waldon and Sherryl Waldon, and many loving nieces and nephews. His parents, Rose Corinne and Phil Waldon preceded him in death. Services: The family will be hosting a casual virtual event on March 7, 2021. If you would like to be included please send contact information to [email protected] A future in-person celebration of life will be held in Kansas City this summer. Suggested Donation: If inclined, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Larry's name. Please feel free to share stories, photos, and impressions of Larry to [email protected] for a memorial album for Larry's family. Larry was a bright light that burned out too early and will be remembered fondly by many family members and friends. Godspeed sweet man.
