Janet Hart

February 19, 1959 - May 5, 2022

Janet Hart, 63, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away from dementia on May 5, 2022. Despite her illness, she remained at home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16 beginning with a visitation at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., praying of the rosary at 10:30 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello Road, Shawnee, KS 66226. Burial at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Raytown, MO will follow a luncheon. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Theresa (Viscek) Wohletz and an infant sister, Jane Wohletz. She is survived by her husband John Hart; three children, John (Avani) Hart, Sarah Hart, Emily Hart; four grandchildren, Sam Hart, Bernie, Henry, and Lakshmi Hart; five siblings, Julie (John) Schneller, Joanne (Tom) Ohmes, Jerry (Jane) Wohletz, John (Lisa) Wohletz, and Jeanne (Brian) Cline; and many nieces and nephews. Janet was a graduate of Bishop Ward High School and Rockhurst University, where she met and later married her college sweetheart, and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. While her primary career was raising three children and helping to take care of her grandchildren, she also worked in her father’s shoe store and at Mobil Oil Credit Corp, St. Joseph Early Education Center, and Hallmark Cards. She devoted years of service as a PTA member of St. John’s/Holy Family Catholic School and as a member of the Holy Family Altar Society and treasurer of St. Veronica’s Lodge, KSKJ Life. But Janet was also a comfort to many facing their toughest struggles, whether that meant taking them to lunch, talking on the phone, or accompanying them to doctor appointments. She wasn’t scared to walk through difficult times alongside those facing them. There’s nothing Janet enjoyed more than spending time with family. She loved family gatherings and hosted many of them. The New Year didn’t officially begin without sarma, Polish sausage, and apple strudel from Janet’s kitchen every January 1st. She enjoyed spending time on the patio listening to music, caring for her flowers and tending to her Fairy Garden. She loved her frequent trips to Branson, Missouri and to visit her three grandchildren in Orlando, Florida. Despite her dementia diagnosis, she even traveled to Portugal and Ireland. Janet meant so much to all who knew her. Her positivity and strength during the last 5 years only revealed even more how strong and special she was. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church via check mailed to 5501 Monticello Road, Shawnee, KS 66226; St. Luke's Foundation / St. Luke's Hospice; or the Alzheimer's Association.
