Erva Jean Wright Bowman

April 4, 1925 - April 30, 2022

Jean Bowman passed away April 30, 2022 at the age of 97 in Kansas City, MO. She was born in Lowell, KS on April 4, 1925 to Lindley A. Wright and Renetta S. French Wright. She graduated from Oswego High School in 1943 and earned a bachelor's degree in business education from Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg (Pittsburg State University) in 1947. She married Kirwin L. Bowman on August 22nd, 1948. They were married for nearly 53 years before his death in May 2001. In her career as a business education teacher, she taught in Lyndon, Riley, Oswego, and Colony, Kansas. She was an avid golfer and bridge player, and active in numerous organizations over the years including P.E.O., Sigma Sigma Sigma, Junior Women's Club, and the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, KS. Jean is survived by her son Larry Bowman (Melanie) of Kansas City, MO, daughter Becky McHugh (Craig) of Oracle, AZ, grandchildren Reas Bowman (Diana), Sarah Bowman, and Michael McHugh (Cheryl), and great grandchildren Teagan and Kenna McHugh. The family would like to thank the staff of The Atriums in Overland Park, KS, where Jean lived for the past 11 years. Graveside services will be at the Oswego, KS Cemetery on Saturday, June 18th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, 201 S. 5th Street, Independence, KS 67301.
