Dorothy Marie Ahlman

October 12, 1926 - March 28, 2022

Dorothy Marie Ahlman (Brokaw), 95, passed away March 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on October 12, 1926 to Matilda and Ralph Brokaw, the second of three sisters. Raised in Waterloo, Iowa, she was first married to Clarence Read in 1945 and had one child Barbara. Clarence preceded her in death. Dorothy met her next love, Roy Ahlman, on the Washington Park golf course and they were married in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1960. Dorothy and Roy had two children, Penny and Jay. Dorothy was an amazing mother and grandmother and was extremely devoted to family, friends and her faith. Her greatest joys came from spending time with her family. She was an avid card shark, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching and then beating her grandchildren in a number of games. Dorothy was a baker, gardener, and a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes, Chiefs and Royals fan; she also loved to sing. She found joy in all aspects of life, including a very cold beer which she could drink faster than brave challengers. She was a kind, gentle spirit who made the lives of everyone she touched better. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Roy Algot Ahlman, daughter Barbara Ann Read, and sisters Arlene and Beverly. She is survived by daughter Penny (John) Livers of Kansas City; son Jay (Lisa) Ahlman of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren Lane, Margot and Jack Livers, and numerous grand and great-grand pets. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6 at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, Mo., with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Visitation Church
