Allen Austin

Allen Austin, 79, of Independence passed away from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease on February 15, 2022, at Olathe Hospice House with his wife, Tracy, by his side. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 5th, noon to 4p, w/the actual service starting at 1p at Tri-City Baptist Church, 430 NE Duncan Rd, Blue Springs, MO 64014. Allen requested no flowers. Donations can be made to Olathe Hospice House or American Parkinson Disease Association. Allen was born in Paola, Kansas on February 3, 1943, to his parents, Franklin Austin and Juanita (Byrne) Price. As a young child, Allen’s family moved to Independence, Missouri, where he attended Benton Elementary School and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1961. Allen married his high school sweetheart, Ruthanne Kauffman in 1961. They raised three children in Independence and later divorced. He was a member of the R.L.D.S. (Community of Christ) Church. Allen was a hard worker and had many various occupations. For many years he worked as a milkman for Meyer Dairy. He was employed at Western-Electric in Lee’s Summit. He owned Aladdin Pest Control. He worked as a sales representative for numerous businesses. One of his jobs that he took great pride in was teaching DIY classes at Home Depot. He also owned Austin’s Five and Dime in the historic Englewood neighborhood in Independence. In his youth he loved to spend time in Paola with his brothers getting into mischief on the oil leases where their father and stepmother lived. Throughout his life he enjoyed dancing, had a tremendous love for animals, especially horses, and loved to play games and cards. In his retirement years in Arizona, he appreciated the opportunity of being a part-time caregiver for his granddaughter, Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Vicky; sister, Beverly; and brother, Mark. He is survived by his wife Tracy (Farley) of Independence, daughter, Laurie Kroenke (Mark) of Oak Grove, MO; son Brent (Brenda) of Phoenix, AZ; and son Brad (Karrie) of Harrisonville, MO.; sister, Janice Harrington, brothers Terry Austin, Byron Austin (RuthEllen) and Greg Price (Glenda); 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 6 nieces, 7 nephews, and many other family members and friends.
