Neil Nelson Worden

Neil Nelson "Shortie" Worden was born on Thursday April 6th, 1961, to Guy Nelson and Edna Marie. He was born in, and spent the formative years of his life, on the family farm in what is now western Olathe, Kansas. Along with his two brothers and two sisters, he spent a lot of time in the fields helping his dad. During his teen years, he attended an all boys boarding school in Atchison, Kansas. After graduation, he went right into the work force. Throughout his life, he held multiple positions in plenty of sectors. But the one he felt the best at was being a mechanic on big rigs. He knew his way around them so well that he could fix it blindfolded. He was married during his life. During one of those marriages, he had a daughter. But he also inherited a step daughter during a separate relationship. His family also consisted of many nieces and nephews. If you asked him, he would tell you that the only thing more solid than his work ethic was his love for football. Due, in part, to playing it in high school. Sundays were always spent watching (and yelling at) the Kansas City Chiefs. One of his other collectibles that he adored was Transformers. He grew up in the era when they first had their start. And throughout his life, he would watch the movies and buy the pieces. His social circle was a bit smaller, but he always left his print on people he met. Being 5'2 was one of the things that was difficult on him. Yet he inherited the nickname Shortie, and it stuck. Stature aside, he was a tank: tough, stubborn, and perservering. By the end of his time on earth, so many of us loved him. He was preceded by both of his parents, one of his brothers and one of his sisters. Suceeding him is his daughter and stepdaughter, his two sisters and one brother, a multitude of nieces and nephews, as well as his many friends and coworkers. He had passed away at the University of Kansas main medical campus on July 27th, 2025. He had himself listed as an organ donor. Per his wishes, he was cremated. He will be buried next to his father, mother, and brother at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. A graveside service will be held on August 23rd, 2025, at 10am.
