Mary Margaret Marshall

Mary Margaret Miller Marshall, (71), of Kansas City North, Missouri passed away at home surrounded by her family on September 16, 2019. Funeral services will be held on September 23, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Northland Reformed Church in Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114. Margaret was born in McCook, Nebraska on December 15, 1947, to Mary Virginia and Joe Miller. She is survived by her husband, Gerry Marshall; a brother Robert Miller and wife, Monica; sister Betty Hummel; her son, Matthew Whitney; his wife Marlene; daughter, Ginny Burke; her husband, Cliff; stepson, Michael Marshall; his wife, Kristi; stepdaughter, Shannon Mitchell; stepdaughter, Camie Taylor; her husband, Jimmie, and 15 grandchildren. Margaret was raised in Indianola, Nebraska. She moved with her family to Glendale, California, when she was 11 years old. She spent her junior high and high school years in Denver, Colorado. Margaret attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She also completed post-graduate classes at Avila College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Margaret was married and started her family in California and Arizona. She moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1982 where she met and married her husband, Gerry Marshall. She and Gerry lived in Smithville, Missouri for 30 years. One of the most important aspects of Margaret’s life and career was her commitment to early childhood and special education. Her career spanned over 40 years. She was committed to ensuring that the education received by children was developmentally appropriate and that children and their families received services to enhance their lives. She had a special place in her heart for children with special needs and ensured that they received services to assist and enhance their futures. Along with her commitment to children and families was also the love and enjoyment of her own family. She was involved not only with her children's lives but with her grandchildren, supporting them in their activities and all aspects of their lives. She loved them dearly; they called her Monnie, Mema, and Grandma. The light and love she gave to the world and those around her will be dearly missed.
