Mack Pierce Spencer

Mack Pierce Spencer, 66, passed away at his home in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Mack was born in Boone County, Arkansas to Merle and Naomi (McCurry) Spencer. At the age of 4, his family moved to Kansas City. Mack graduated from Southeast High School in 1969. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Missouri in Columbia in 1974. Mack began working for Bendix/Honeywell in 1975 and his work ethic prevailed until his retirement in 2017. Mack was able to balance his strong work ethic and his devotion to his family. As a quiet man, his actions spoke louder than words. In his time at home, he took pride in the ability to fix just about anything on cars, keep an old house going, and work in his garden. He found great fulfillment in coaching his children’s sports, attending cross country meets, going on family outings and vacations, exercising on the neighborhood fitness trail, and visiting family in Arkansas. His greatest joy was his wife, three children and four grandchildren. Throughout his life, Mack had many achievements, but his greatest achievement was his family. Mack is survived by his wife, Mary (Jones) Spencer, daughter and son-n-law, Emily (Spencer) Stanton and Quintin Stanton, daughter and son-n-law, Laura (Spencer) Veatch and Donavan Veatch and son, Phillip Spencer. He leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Tyson and Corrine Stanton and Henry and Benjamin Veatch. He also leaves behind his sister, Merlyn (Spencer) Lazorow, her husband, Richard Lazorow, and nephew, Spencer Lazorow, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents. We would like to thank Dr. Anthony Accurso, Dr. Qamar Khan, Prakash Neupane, and the entire team at KU Cancer Center for their dedication, compassion, and hard work. Thank you to Brandon Waterman and the Good Sheperd Hospice Team for their guidance and care in helping Mack and our family through this difficult time. Our gratitude extends to all of our neighbors, family and friends who have shown generosity and kindness to our family. A celebration of Mack’s life will take place on March 7, at 10:00 am at Central United Methodist Church, 5144 Oak Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64112.
