David Wayne Freeland

David Wayne Freeland, father, brother, and disciple of God, passed away on July 5, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 14, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, where he spent most of his younger years until moving to California with his parents and three siblings. He attended Westchester High School and later spent a few years at Santa Monica College. David loved his time in California and often spoke about the many memories he made spending time with his best friends at his father's restaurant "Yesterdays" or exploring the sunny beaches of Los Angeles. David moved to Kansas City in 1990, where he began working at Woodside Tennis and Health Club. He worked there for over 25 years as part owner and Operations/ Membership Sales manager. Outside of his professional life, David was passionate about music, art, and his Christian faith. He loved jamming out to music from the 70s and was an expert when it came to art, especially that of Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet. He took great pride in being a father to his daughter Ashley whom he adored. His love for God was an integral part of his life. He found solace and inspiration through worship at church and through reading scripture. David will be remembered for his kind and loving heart, his loyalty, and the immeasurable amount of joy and laughter he brought to everyone in his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. David leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter Ashley Freeland/Soleimani (husband Nima Soleimani), stepson Bryce Cox (wife Liz Cox), sister Diane Stigall, stepmother Barbara Freeland, nephew Bradley Davis, great-nieces Emma Barton, Chandler Davis, and Annabelle Davis, and great-nephew Noah Barton. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Freeland, mother Betty Freeland, sister Deborah Freeland, brother Phil Freeland, and nephew, Marshall Barton. --- Please join us as we gather to remember David Freeland. Let us honor the love, laughter, and light he brought into this world and the countless lives he touched with his warmth and kindness. We come together not to mourn his passing but to celebrate the incredible impact he made during his time with us. As we gather, we will share stories, memories, and laughter, reminding ourselves of the joy he brought to our lives and the beautiful legacy he left behind.
