Catherine Musto

Catherine (Cathy) Musto, age 83, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on May 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, MO. Cathy was born July 25, 1933 in Nagoya, Japan. As a young woman in Japan she attended an Art Institute where she learned to make Geisha dolls and other Japanese art work. Cathy later moved to the United States, after meeting her late husband, William (Bill) Musto who was in the Air-force. They were married in 1955. They moved around frequently, living at different air bases. One of the most memorable places they lived was in Hawaii. Cathy had two sons, William (Bill) Jr. and Douglas (Doug). Her sons were her pride and joy. Her oldest son Bill gave her two grandchildren, Nik and Nina. Cathy was a hair stylist at John Knox Village for 30 years. She also took classes to learn how to quilt. Cathy eventually divorced and remained single. She loved Elvis Presley, Engelbert Humperdinck, and old country music. She enjoyed going to the casinos to play the slot machines. She loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas and Japan. After retiring, Cathy lived for a few years at John Knox Village and later moved to St. Mary’s Manor where she was a very popular resident. She loved to hug people and give them compliments. She made a wonderful friend named Betty Garzee. They became inseparable and were famous around the Manor! Wherever Betty went, Cathy was sure to be right behind her! Without Betty, Cathy’s last few years would not have been so happy. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, former husband Bill Musto, and grandson Nikolas Musto. She is survived by her two sons, Bill Musto and Doug (Nicole) Musto, former daughter in-law Rebeca Simmons, granddaughter Nina Musto, and great grandson Mason Musto. She will be forever in our minds and hearts and we know she is resting well now in the arms of our Lord. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 1st at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Manor, inside the chapel. The address is 111 N.W. Mock Ave., Blue Springs, MO. A cake and punch reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
